Microsoft SharePoint 2007 bug exposes company secrets

Microsoft is scrambling to fix a bug in its SharePoint 2007 groupware after a Swiss firm abruptly released code that could be used in an attack. The proof-of-concept code was released Wednesday, just over two weeks after security consultancy High-Tech Bridge says it disclosed the issue to Microsoft on April 12. Wow! Java exploit could expose Windows to attack

A Google researcher has published details of a Java virtual machine bug that could be used to run unauthorised programs on a computer. The attack was disclosed Friday by Google's Tavis Ormandy, who said he had notified Oracle's Sun team about the flaw earlier. "They informed me that they do not consider this vulnerability to be of high enough priority to break their quarterly patch cycle," Ormandy wrote. "I did not agree." Microsoft confirms Windows 7 service pack

According to a company spokesman, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) will primarily contain "minor updates," including patches and hotfixes that will have been delivered earlier via the Windows Update service, rather than new features.
